About Burhan Mohamedali
Dr. Burhan Mohamedali is an advanced heart failure and heart transplant cardiologist at the Cardiovascular Institute of San Diego. He graduated from University of Kentucky with a Medical Doctorate. Dr Mohamedali underwent residency training in internal medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at UIC. Due to his passion for advanced heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, mechanical circulatory assist devices and heart transplantation, he specialized in the field of heart failure with a fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology through UIC at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois.
Burhan has presented numerous research presentations at many society meetings including ISHLT, ACC, AHA, HFSA, AATS and ASAIO. He has published manuscripts in various areas of heart failure, left ventricular assist devices (LVADs), heart transplantation and stem cell therapy for congestive heart failure. Recently, Dr Mohamedali published a book chapter on heart failure in patients requiring kidney transplantation. Dr Mohamedali has been an invited distinguished speaker at many national and international conferences including, Taiwanese Society of Cardiology, Indian College of Cardiology and East African Society of Cardiology. He is actively involved in American College of Cardiology, where he represents heart failure physicians through being a member of the heart failure and transplant section leadership council.
Prior to moving to San Diego, Dr Mohamedali was the director of the Congestive Heart Failure Program at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. In addition to successfully running the heart failure clinic and inpatient heart failure service, he was also in charge of the cardiomems heart failure remote monitoring program, heart failure discharge clinic, as well as inpatient heart failure readmission reduction program. Under his leadership, Rush University Medical Center was successful in implementation various heart failure quality care initiative to improve outcomes in heart failure patients.
Outside work, Burhan loves spending time with his family and kids. He is very active in outdoor activities such as hiking, camping and exploring nature. He is an amateur astronomer with profound interest in the field of planetary science and black holes. He loves traveling to explore various areas interesting geological formations.
